Bad Timing was a short film production I worked on as a Lighting and Compositing Artist from August to December of 2022. The film was produced by a group of student artists enrolled in Animation Lab at The University of Texas at Dallas's School of ATEC. Here, I had my first experience as part of a simulated industry pipeline. I learned a lot about taking constructive criticism, meeting the expectations of leads and directors, and regrouping what to do when things did not go to plan.
Just as importantly, these lessons I was learning helped me to become a better artist by working more closely with others than I ever had before. On the software side, I came to understand Maya, Arnold, and Nuke in greater understanding than I ever had until that point, and was often given tasks that required problem solving complex issues to come up with last minute solutions or accomodations to acheive the desired product. This often meant correcting render mistakes in post, staying up long hours, and taking notes until the last minute before premiere.
This production helped me grow as an artist in ways I did not consider that I could, and notably, it made me more comfortable in my ability to utilize the lighting and compositing tools as I took the next step forward into tougher challenges and new obstacles to overcome.
